As our Consultancy team in the UK (London, Cambridge, Ipswich or Darlington) continues to grow, we are looking to welcome a new Senior Mechanical Engineer.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead medium-sized projects from BSRIA stage 1 to 6, managing client-facing design, coordination, and engineering services for mechanical installations and systems.

  • Produce specifications, schedules RIBA stage reports, feasibility and technical reports and briefs where applicable.

  • Survey, test, and report on existing mechanical installations.

  • Specify activities to ensure manufacturing, construction, installation, and testing meet functional specifications and client requirements.

  • Make day-to-day project decisions and advise clients directly.

  • Represent the company at technical meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.

  • Perform engineering calculations to ensure compliance with industry and legal standards.

  • Ensure technical accuracy of work by Trainees, Graduates, Engineers and mentor junior staff.

  • Validate and check designs and specifications.

  • Support project delivery in line with Zenon Group processes, including project management, financial management, QA/QC, and technical review.

  • Advise on energy use and conservation to minimize environmental impact and reduce carbon footprint.

  • Monitor project budgets, forecasting, and fee spend.

  • Maintain personal CPD and develop relationships with new and existing clients.

Qualifications & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design across a range of project sectors.

  • Working towards, or eligible for, Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a recognised UK professional body (e.g. CIBSE/IMechE).

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, public health (plumbing), and building controls systems, with experience coordinating across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Familiarity with UK Building Regulations and relevant British Standards, CIBSE guidance, and industry best practice.

  • Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD is preferred

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
