Design and build opportunities
We have recently been making excellent use of our structural modelling and design software, particularly on design and build projects where clients require preliminary designs within tight timeframes.
The software provides the design team with a 3D model, allowing for a clearer understanding of the proposed structural arrangement, alongside preliminary sizing of all structural elements for pricing purposes in a traditional 2D format.
A recent project where this approach proved especially effective was a new 60m x 30m industrial warehouse. Due to the sloping site, our client, the contractor, encouraged the site owner to explore the option of incorporating an undercroft to create additional much-needed parking space.
Using our software, we quickly modelled a range of building concepts, enabling the contractor to assess build costs and discuss value-added options prior to submitting their bid.
Following a successful bid, we are now progressing into the detailed design phase, using the model to produce construction drawings. The building owner selected a half-undercroft solution, striking a balance between construction costs and increased parking capacity, while freeing up other areas of the site for future development.
