Tree House Project
Zenon Group (before Superstructures) is proud to be contributing its expertise to the Tree House project in Great Barton a unique residential development that pushes the boundaries of structural design.
Construction of the Tree House is set to commence in 2019. The project is the legacy of architect Mark Savin, who led Infinity Architects (now BCR Infinity Architects) alongside business partner Aoife O’Gorman.
Prior to his passing in November 2016, Mark developed the concept for this distinctive three-storey property, located on a one-acre site adjacent to historic woodland. Zenon Group (before Superstructures) has been involved from the outset, working closely with Mark to ensure the structural design could bring his ambitious vision to life.
The project has since progressed under Aoife’s direction and has reached the technical design stage. The building will feature cherry wood cladding and offer woodland views from all sides. Its innovative structural form incorporates columns designed to resemble tree trunks, seamlessly integrating the property with its natural surroundings.
The main living spaces are positioned on the upper level, with living areas and a kitchen/breakfast room on the second floor. Three bedrooms occupy the mid-level, while the ground floor includes a boot room, utility room, cloakroom, and study. Terraces and planters are incorporated at each level.
James Potter, Managing Director of Zenon Group (before Superstructures), commented:“Hidden within a timber exterior, the structure is predominantly steel frame to ensure stability. The split levels and complex geometry presented a significant design challenge. However, through the use of advanced design software, we were able to deliver a practical and buildable solution.”
Aoife O’Gorman added:“The brief was clear from the outset to immerse the homeowner within the surrounding woodland, with every view forming part of the tree canopy. Mark was deeply passionate about contemporary design and sustainable living, and this project will stand as a lasting tribute to his vision.”
